Carlos Barahona Possollo: Iconographic Genius
I stumbled upon Barahona Posollo's work thanks to Kimber's post on friendfeed.

Born in Lisbon in 1967
BA in painting from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon with a rating of 18/20. In 1995 he taught in the school as an assistant university invited. In 1995 he taught in the school as an assistant university invited. He studied Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon from 1986 to 1989. Collaborated with the post of Portugal in the production of documents for the issuing of stamps, especially the series to commemorate the 5th Centenary of the Voyage of Vasco de Gama. Collaborated in the first nine numbers of the Portuguese edition of National Geographic Magazine collaborated in the first nine numbers of the Portuguese edition of National Geographic Magazine
His paintings are divided into several collections, including most importantly the Museum of Setubal, Banco de Portugal and CTT.
I absolutely love Possollo's use of mythical themes and erotic imagery. His symbolism is uncommon and yet I found it so appealing. All the references to death and libido struck a chord with me, and I guess it all goes back to my obsession with Antiquity, Eros and the Afterlife.
